Open Mike Night #44 - Photographing for Yourself
Friday, October 30, 2009 at 5:00PM Hello Everyone,
I hope you have all had an amazing week! The past few days have been filled with more learning and discoveries for me, and I really am excited about what the future holds.
You might have noticed a theme with my Journal posts this week...they are all landscapes. Instead of talking business or showing more sessions (which I will post soon), I decided to have a theme this week that would support tonight's Open Mike Night. That theme is taking photographs for yourself.
So many times we get wrapped up in providing our vision to everyone else except us, and yet, the very reason we became photographers was because we enjoyed taking pictures, probably just for fun. Long before anyone ever paid me, I enjoyed photography for what it was. It's an expression of what's in my heart and mind. If my business closed tomorrow, I would still be a photographer because it's who I am.
As we get close to winter here in the west, many moody photographers artists go into some sort of weird funk. They question their photography, their passion, their business, and on and on the list goes. Why? Perhaps it's because they lose focus of why they do what they do.
Take a few moments this next week and really make a commitment that you will photograph something purely for you. No one has to like it, in fact, no one even needs to see it. Just get out there and take photographs purely for fun. You never know what might come from it...
